Annual Events in Detroit

Movement Electronic Music Festival in late May. Presented in downtown Detroit, the city where electronic music originated, the Movement Electronic Music Festival is Detroit's premier annual electronic dance festival that attracts some of the biggest names in the business and more than half a million visitors each year with a popular display of light and sound.

Detroit Downtown Hoedown in early to mid June. Featuring some of Country and Western's best performers, the 3-day Detroit Downtown Hoedown is one of the largest free country music festivals in the world featuring new and upcoming artists and many famous and well recognized ones as well entertaining several hundred thousand fans with the best in country music.

Midsummer Nights in Midtown in mid June. Detroit's unrivaled international arts festival, replacing the Detroit Festival of the Arts, Midsummer Nights in Midtown is a popular and major arts event attracting over 10,000 people each year for the month long series of free cultural performances on every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening through June at a variety of cultural center venues.

Target Fireworks
in late June. Brought together by the same company that orchestrates the ever popular America's Thanksgiving Parade in late November, the Target Fireworks event, the largest international fireworks show of its kind, has been a popular attraction for well over half a century. Launching from the Detroit River, more than 10,000 separate explosives highlight the skies above Detroit.

Detroit River Days in late June. One of Detroit's most popular summer events, the 3-day Detroit River Days festival celebrating Detroit's maritime, ecological and culinary culture attracts thousands of visitors each year with a host of family oriented events, eco-friendly children's activities, Jet-skis, tall ships and boat tours, towering sand sculptures, and live concerts highlighting local, national and international musicians.

Arab & Chaldean World Festival in late July in Detroit. Recognized as the biggest Arab-Chaldean-American cultural event in North America for over 40 years, the Arab & Chaldean World Festival attracts over 100,000 people every year to enjoy music from all over the Middle East, the Art Gallery showcasing multiple exhibits, the popular Children's Fair featuring arts and crafts projects and multiple attractions that are fun for the whole family, a variety of Arabic and Chaldean food and a fashion show highlighting the exotic and different attire from all of the Arab countries involved.

African World Festival in mid August. Recognized as Detroit's premier ethnic festival, the three-day African World Festival, presented by the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History attracts over a million people each year and celebrates African culture with music, live entertainment, children's activities, an artisans' market and a wide variety of ethnic cuisine from all over the world.

Detroit Jazz Festival in late August / early September (Labor Day Weekend). A popular event for over 34 years, the Detroit International Jazz Festival is one of the world's premier jazz festivals that takes place over several city blocks in downtown Detroit and which features more than 100 acts taking part on five stages in four days. Offers everything from popular concerts, educational activities for adults and children such as the Jazz Talk Tent and the Kid Bop Area, fireworks, late-night jam sessions, and unique opportunities to meet the artists involved.

America's Thanksgiving Parade in late November in Detroit. America's Thanksgiving Parade® is one of the country's oldest and most celebrated parades producing amazing events for millions of people including the world renowned and ever-expanding parade of nearly 300 papier-mâché heads, some of which date back to the 1940s. Other popular facets of the parade include large helium balloons and the Distinguished Clown Corps handing out candies and beads.
